Your effective frame rate will depend on the monitor's refresh rate (if you aren't sure, look up its model number) and how good your graphics hardware is. 

 

The cool thing about HDMI which differentiates it from other display cables is that it can carry sound AND visual information in one single cable. This means that if your monitor has integrated speakers, the visual cable will also give it sound; no other cabling necessary. 

 

Though there is a difference on a visual perspective. You'll notice that HDMI monitors using HDMI cables will give you a much sharper and cleaner picture than VGA.
