Hey guys,

I am wondering about getting a 2nd GTX 980 in SLI by the end of this year - I really want to play Star Citizen in Oculus VR once it's out.

Could you tell me about what is your current performance (fps) in Star Citizen if you arein the alpha 2.0?

Getting a 90FPS stabe will not be easy...

90 FPS with the current CPU overhead is not really possible. Maybe because you have a 6-core i7 you'll fair better. But those of us on i5's are having absolute shit fps.

wow wow wow hold on. How does CPU suddenly came into such big of a deal?

I just went from a haswell i5 to skylake i7 and its very similar as far as straight cpu performance in game. I do not confirm :P

Can confirm the shitty fps for i5 CPUs.

it IS confirmed, the devs themselves said so in a livestream. They had to push something onto the mainthread for i5's which caused 1 core to max out. They don't have to do this on multicore i7's.

Well they're essentially still quadcores. Perhaps the developers implied >quadcore i7's.

K. Just saying that on my end, I'm running an i5 and I'm getting poor fps, and was corroborating what you said.

CryEngine. Plus there's a lot of shit going on at once on screen.

:o crap. that's no good news....

Fair enough. Yeah my own personal experience is 1 core 100%, rest at 20%. and 20-30 fps.

Only getting 40-50% GPU saturation at 1440p.

Game still isn't out yet, technically.

Still though, I'd imagine an i7 would be the way to go when the game does release though, for the best experience anyways.

I imagine this game tops my 6c/12t i7 tops out at a 100%... im going to go crazy...

It's better than if it tops out at 40% ^^

Yes, but here is what im afraid of - What if my pump stops? Yes - im water cooling this bad boy...

here is the worst case scenario:

Im playing star citizen - cpu at 100% 4.1GHz, GPU 100% ---> pump stops ---> 0_0 Ooops -> system crashes ---> (hopefully) system shuts down (or worse:cpu melts).

If the pump stops when at 50% load it will also run hot. But it won't overheat. Intel Thermal Throttle is way too good for that.

yeah, if i was on AMD, i should be worried :D
