Is 144hz enough for a first person shooter or should I take vsync off and let the engine refresh faster .

Ps I no I won't see more that 144hz but will it be more responsive ?

It may be more responsive, as VSync can cause input delay.

If we're talking about just limiting FPS at 144Hz or letting in run over that, there would be no difference in responsiveness. If anything, running over 144Hz could cause screen tearing.

Yes because unless you use GSync the latency is observable.

I'm running gsync too ??

^^but also this...

it's a trade off that is well worth doing for first person shooters, you just DON'T play with Vsync on...

if you have Gsync then by all means turn it ON and disable Vsync. Edited by i_build_nanosuits

With Capp on v off the latency is better between shooting and clicking with no tearing

GSync makes it so that there is no tearing and almost no added latency.

the word ''almost'' can be deleted here, the monitor being in full sync with the GPU at all time mean no added latency what so ever and only 100% fully rendered frames are displayed...it's very beautiful to see.

OP something is wrong with your setup i think, whenever Gsync is active on my monitor when i'm rendering games the framerate never exceed 144FPS wheter Vsync is ON or OFF but it might depend on the game i don't play battlefront and i usualy render around 120 frames per second in battlefield 4 so maybe some engine do let it rip past the gsync limit but it's not happening on my machine (i remember seeing that happened with rocket league once though)

the way g sync works now it that u can surpas its refresh rate if u disable vsync

And Capps at 144 with it enabled

not on my machine...at least i don't think so.

Anyways, you should increase your settings for better image fidelity instead and try to render the game at anywhere from 100 to 120FPS...anything more than that is totally useless. Set settings to high or ultra and then use super sampling slider to clean up the images even more if you still have horsepower to spare.

There was a video by nvdia on it, try it, it's how it is now because pro gamers were requesting it,

Seems loads witter with v off tho
