Things you need to know first:

The prices are total with shipping and may seem high because it's Australian pricing

I've only purchased a few things so don't say get a cheaper case when I've already bought it

I will be upgrading so if you're wondering why I chose a Z97 motherboard with an I3 that's why

The ram is actually 1x8gb stick @1866mhz

Hard drive got it through a mate who wasnt using it

Didn't buy an after market cooler because I won't be overclocking as of now because I can't anyway

Aim: Music, gaming, watching videos

Location: Australia

Display: 1 monitor resolution 1080p

Budget: don't really have one but trying to keep the cost around the $800-900 area

What upgrades I plan to do:

GTX 750ti -- GTX 970

I3-4170-- I5-4690k

-snip-

For the GPU go for the AMD R9 390 instead of the GTX 970. Also if you have enough money try to get another 1x8GB of RAM. If you didn't buy the SSD yet try to get the Samsung 850 EVO 250GB version or if you don't have enough money get the 120GB version.

Get 2x4gb stick of 8gb ram as it will enable dual channel, making your ram faster.

i5 4690k | MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G | Swiftech H240-X | MSI Z97s SLI Krait Edition | Corsair Vengeance Pro 8gb ( 2x4gb ) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 850EVO 250gb SSD & WD Caviar Blue 1tb HDD | Fractal Design Define R5

Already have purchased the ram and it was $10 cheaper to buy 1x8 over 2x4 but it leaves me to have more ram, I know what you mean tho it would be a little bit faster
