Code Keyboard & Your Opinion

Hello fellow members,

 

I was wondering if any of you have heard of Code Keyboards; http://codekeyboards.com/

They use the clear cherry switch and are quite clean & classy in design up to my opinion, as well interesting solution to media keys. I really want reactive typing that's as orgasmic as Ducky's though and I'm not sure if it has such options. What are your opinions on this keyboard? I took notice when I saw it featured on engadget.

They look so awesome, they're just really pricey. I'd take a Shine 3 for the same price to be honest.

Well, besides the neat features that the Ducky brings, which I believe the Ducky Shine 3 is sold out everywhere, what makes the Ducky option sway you from nabbing one of these?

Clears are being hyped now....I see posts about Clears here, at GH and in the local forums I go to. I have a Leopold FC660M with Clears, it feels like a tactile Black or a heavier Brown (but with a more defined bump). I like though as it's heavier at 55g actuation, and as of now, Green, Black and Clear are my fave MX switches.

That's what concerns me too, I've only had blue and barely tried brown. I'd like to get brown as my next switch but clear seems quite appealling to me at the moment. Even though it has a heavier actuation, the website itself states that once you get used to touch typing or so it will actually become better. I might enjoy the heavier feeling but idk as of yet.

Well, I have heavy fingers/hands, so I prefer heavier switches, that's why my current MX faves are Green, Black and Clear. I'd gotten the FC660M NOT because it had Clear, that wasn't my main concern, I'd have been equally happy with Black, but since there was a Clear version, I thought, "WTH, right?" Glad I'd gotten it because Clear, together with the PBT key caps on the Leopold, make for a very enjoyable typing experience.....games very nicely as well.

'Reactive'? What do you mean? Tactile? If so, a few switch types are tactile, like Brown, Blue, Green.....and Clear. I'm typing on my FC660M Clear and I do feel the bump, it's not as defined as the Blues or Greens, but it's there. And at 55g, it's heavier or stiffer than Blue and Brown, depressing the keys, I do feel some resistance....but I enjoy that feel.

Resistance on MX Clears quickly spikes up to to 100cN(~102g) when bottoming out.. MX Clear springs are the heaviest of all MX switches.

Tactile bump is felt at 65cN, and it actuates at 55cN. Then, as you can see, it quickly jumps to 100cN once traveling 4mm to the bottom out point.

 

I've got a Ducky keyboard with Browns and Clears. I must say, I really enjoy the Clears.

reactive is referring to the backlighting effect popularised by ducky.

 

your backlights in reactive mode and everything goes dark.  you click a key and it lights up fo 0.5-3 seconds (depending on the keyboard's settings) before going dark again.

I think it is very cool how they are using front facing icons for the function keys. I have always wondered what a front facing key would look like when it is backlit.

to hell with clears, i want a loud and soft keyboard, give me blues with 45CN springs

i'm a blue lover, but it's pretty obvious they're not perfect (pretty close, but still room for obvious improvement).

 

greens were supposed to be my savior, but they turned out QUIETER (nnoooo.....) and wayyy too hard.  the only other clicky switch in the same demographic, mx whites, are supposed to be near silent (for a clicky at least) and just as heavy as the greens.

 

 

personally, I think the choice of mx whites is EXCELLENT (based on what I've read about whites).  browns have been the standard office tactile switch for awhile now, but there have been alot of complaints about the soft bump (especially from blue lovers working with blue haters).  however, the white seems to directly address that complaint.

 

i'm currently waiting for my realforce 87ub to arrive so that I can test its sound profile.  if I either don't like the feel or it's too loud, then I would definitely start looking into either the CODE or the wasd 87-key w/ whites.

Bah, I really ought to read more carefully next time, reread the OP's original post and kicking myself for not noting that. I'd also read thru part of the CODE specs, it made no mention of such a feature, so I believe it doesn't, But, it does look classy with its simplistic and elegant design.....I do like the way it looks.

Haha it's alright, it's my fault for not explaining reactive typing feature more. I was looking into the other cherries as well but clears seem promising to me, either way, blues are too loud for someone like me who's pretty conscious of my environment.

If you have tried both Blue and Brown, and feel that they are too light, or not stiff enough, then perhaps Clear would suit you. It is definitely stiffer than Blue, has a more pronounce bump than Brown, and is more satisfying to type on. I have a Leopold FC660M Clear and typing on it is pretty satisfying, the bump is more defined and I like the stiffness/heaviness of the switch. Plus, my Leopold comes with stock PBT key caps which adds to the overall feel of the keyboard, making typing even more orgasmic......do have a box of Kleenex ready if you prefer heavier tactile switch.

Great keyboard but not everyone is suited for clears. The switch is much heavier and will result in discomfort if used over extended period of time
