Looking for input on the current build I came up with. Looking for way to improve it.

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/tkmhCJ

With a new Dell UltraSharp U2515H WQHD IPS Monitor. "not set in stone will change if theres a better model for around the same amount :)"

Couldn't decide between the R9 390 or a GTX 970. Was thinking the 390 because of direct x 12? or should I still go for a 970? What is the fastest 970.

cheers

regards,

James

as i said read the topic in my signature ;) bob jim compared the cards nice

In your opinion and whatever tests you did and how you did them. I could disagree but let's keep it on topic.

This means that the R9 390 is a MUCH better choice if you are using high detail texture packs at 1440p/4K.          to quote @Bob Jim

and otherwise for a budget at 2-2,5k i wouldnt bother about 970 and straight get an awesome 980TI  IMO EVGA ;)

More expensive power supply and electric bills, crappy drivers aside.... then probably.

i got my evga 750w g2 supernova for ~120 bucks so i would say its more expensive than your 115 corsair CX *cough*

and i wouldnt bother about a few bucks more on the electric bill if you spend more than 2 grand on your pc

the nvidia drivers are ok, had no issues with my 980TI so far with

remember what uncle ben told spiderman.... "from great power comes a great bill"

In your opinion and whatever tests you did and how you did them. I could disagree but let's keep it on topic.

There's reasons for both.

970:  Nvidia features (shadowplay especially), cooler, uses less power, lots of Nvidia optimised games, MOSTLY good overclockers

390:  DX12 is mostly on AMD side right now, 8GB of vram, faster than the 970 at 1440p+, idk... can't think of anything right now.

It's up in the air.  Most people generally say 390.  Drivers and Gameworks can't be used in an argument because they hinder both team red and team green.

Nice build at the price.

But getting a 980Ti for a 60Hz monitor is a waste of money imo.

Better getting a R9 390 and save some money here.

okay, just as a fellow aussie. there's issues with both cards. The 970 falls off as you ask it to perform beyond 1080p in AAA games. Nividea's tessalation is king, but that whole 3.5GB of VRam hurts it far below that that limit, as it goes looking for the extra at anytime it stutters, shudders, and basically sucks at any time it actually needs more that the 3.5...

At any resolution above that 3.5GB (basically 1440p+) the 390 is a better card despite being just a rebranded 290x, and IMO you can find better for far less.

My advice in aussieland, home of australia tax, and industry markup is actually the reference 980....Most users are replacing their reference cards from christmas last year with TI's... I've seen ac ouple of cards for 500 bucks.

I have that exact processor, and let me tell you according to 3DMark Firestrike it slightly bottlenecks an R9 380, which I though was strange. Soo 980Ti might not be the best option there.

The R9 390 would work, but an R9 Fury (Non X) would be better.
