Hi.

My Samsung SyncMaster 940BW only has two display ports, the blue VGA and the white DVI-D dual link.

I have a new build coming up with a GTX 960 Strix but its display ports are Dual Link DVI-I, HDMI 2.0, 3x DisplayPort 1.2

I was wondering if I can use the DVI-D cable for both the DVI-I of the 960 to my DVi-D monitor, or am I supposed to buy an adapter.

DVI-I is a combo port that can be used as either VGA or DVI-D. So yes, it will work with DVI-D cables and devices.

DVI-I ports will accept both DIV-A and DVI-D

DVI-I is a combo port that can be used as either VGA or DVI-D. So yes, it will work with DVI-D cables and devices.

To complete both of you:

DVI-I can accept all DVIs. So, DVI-A, DVI-I, and DVI-D.

(And because of this wide arrangement of different cables, and both analog and digital, DVI-I is in my opinion the best type of display port (this is, discarding displayport (itself :P), because that's so expensive, and not that widely used). :)
