Hi! I do not know much about networking so please try not to face palm too hard at this, but I was wondering if an internet switch such as this:http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-SF1005D-5-port-100Mbps-Desktop/dp/B000FNFSPY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1451861174&sr=1-1&keywords=ethernet+hub would work to hook up 3 computers on a network to play games and maybe move files over. And if so how hard would if by to setup. Note (idk if this is relevant) but this would be done without any form of internet connection so just hooking the computers together. Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Yes that would work perfectly. Its as simple as connecting 3 Ethernet cables to the switch. You could even attach an Ethernet cable from your home router to the switch and give everybody internet access... get the 1000Mb one however else your file transfers will be quite slow. (12.5MB/s vs 125MB/s)

A switch will work on a LAN just fine without a router as long as you setup static IPs on those 3 computers since there's no DHCP server available to hand out IP addresses. A router is only needed to route traffic to a different network.

Actually static IPs are not necessary as computers will assign themselves an IP address. Having said that though, they are nicer to use than the auto-assigned ones.
