Eyefinity Massive stuttering

So I just got an R9 290 today, and I only have one problem with it: Every game that I play at 5760x1080 has massive stuttering issues. I have no idea what is going on with this card, if you guys have any suggestions, that would be great. I played DiRT 3 and GTA V, and both stuttered pretty bad, but only in triple monitor mode. I'm guessing the games are just a little to intense for this card (I hope not, because this is what I bought it for).

Check your clock rate when this occurs, it tends to dip down to a lower power mode but goes too low and causes shuddering. If your overclocking your card revert it back to stock that usually solves the issue, it's not really a new thing on AMD cards.

I haven't overclocked it one bit, yet. Should I download the Sapphire software that came with the card?

Check to see if it clock rate dips down suddenly at all when running the game at all first, if it doesn't then it could be an unrelated issue. Also what FPS are you getting on the triple setup.

In GTA V it has 60, and then all the sudden drops to 30, back and forth. DiRT 3 is a constant 60, but stutters like high hell.

Do you have Vsync enabled and if there is Physx disabled in the games.

And you don't notice sudden drops or large variations in clock rate when it occurs?

 

Also it seems to be a regular thing with Dirt 3 looking into it with Windows live possibly causing the studdering issues:

Yep, It it thermal throttling, I logged my gameplay and it showed the clock going up and down all the time.

Yeah looks like you might want to see about adding a few extra fans to give it some more fresh air or check to see if cleaning the GPU and applying some new paste will help then.

It works but if your going to try and keep the card cooler while getting good performance something like a G10 adapter and 120mm AIO will usually do better. Just remember to apply heatsinks to the VRM and VRAM.

Hi,

It sounds very strange that a new card would require cleaning or aftermarket cooler or resitting of the existing heat sink.

A drop in gpu clock can be caused by other issues rather than thermal throttling, e.g. Slow CPU bottleneck.

Also if using VSync it may well be a normal gpu reaction to the wait time needed to output the frames at 60FPS.

I would recommend you explore the above possible causes before spending money and time to replace a new heatsink that came with your new gpu.
