PSU & Case for new build

Go to solution Solved by MourningSouls,

Here are some cases I would quite happily use.

Fractal Design Define R5
Fractal Design Define S
Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

Phanteks Enthoo Pro
Phanteks Enthoo Pro M
Phanteks Enthoo Evolv

Silverstone TJ04B-E (-EW for window)
Silverstone KL04B (Add "-W" for window)
NZXT S340
NZXT H440
Corsair 450D
Corsair Air 540

As for PSU's, the units I'd recommend have already been recommended. Personally I'd go with the EVGA GS or G2.

The below setup will be used for video editing & color correction work, suggestions needed for PSU & full tower case.

Asus x99 deluxe motherboard

i7 5930k processor, Corsair 2400 32gb RAM

MSI 6g 980ti gaming card -  1 NO, will add one more 980ti later

Samsung Evo SSD for OS

seagate HDD 720 rpm RAID 0 for media access - two 2 TB disks, 1 more 2 TB for rendering

Corsair H100i water cooler for CPU.

Budget for case is 15$ and PSU is also 150$

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Get a 5820k instead of the 5930k.  PCI lanes are pretty much useless.  Case is your choice.  Go on http://pcpartpicker.com/ and find one you like.  PSU should be 850W for the second 980ti.  Something like an EVGA GS, GQ or G2 (NOT the NEX) or a Seasonic G, S12G, or S12II would work absolutely dandy!

i5-4690k@4.5GHz || MSI GTX 970 || MSI z97 Gaming 5 || NZXT Kraken x61 || WD Black 1TB || Crucial MX100 || 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro || Corsair RM750 || NZXT H440 || Corsair k70 RGB mx browns || Acer H236HL || ViewSonic VX2255wm-4

Don't you think more than 850W for 2x 980 Tis OC and 5930k/5820k OC would be sufficient? Yes I know you wouldn't hit 850W but maybe with peaks and being closer to the most efficient point of your PSU will reduce it's heatouput (and possibly noise)

I'd sayand R5 is or an S340 or an H440 or prettymuch all midi tower cases are a bit small for aircooled 980 Tis. Don't you think so too?

EDIT: I might be wrong though. Just some after though.

Do i have to consider anything specific about corsair h100i compatibility among selecting a case

Not really.  I'm pretty sure that 2x 980ti with a 5930K would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 700W under load when all the overclocks are pushed to the max.

No.  ATX cases should have support for a 240 rad.

It is 240mm radiator. You will need space for it and enough clearence for the fans to put anywhere on it. Going with a large case is my recommendation when aiming for 2x 980Tis so you most likely won't have a problem with fitting it anywhere.

Edited, that's what I was thinking initially BUT 850/2<<700 so taking something omre beafy would be sufficient.

The S340 is the only case in my list that will have an issue with the standard top mount for an H100. But it will fit in the front just fine.

100W headroom is more than enough.
