Unnecessary cpu usage?

I walked away from my pc for a little bit and when I came back the fans were ramped up and my cpu usage looked like this. The drop off is when I moved my mouse. What is the usage from?

these cores seem a little too hot for being idle....

Dell Precision T5400 OEM cooling... Those are completely normal idle temps in this case. Load temps are 60-70.

Make sure no weird programs are installed possibly and if it is an old install of windows might be time to clean it up a bit or even do a fresh re-install. It also might be Windows Update or program updates in the background. Also like @Fictionvl said those core temps seem high, my X3220 gets up to about 61c under load on a $10 775 cooler from amazon so might want to check that out :)

Ah not bad, 70c is a safe temperature for those processors, I am very jealous of that system TBH, always wanted to get one and still do if I can get a hold of one.

Yeah maybe time for a clean windows install... This one is from August. I can't use any aftermarket coolers because my cpu's are socket 771 and the heatsink screws go into the case instead of the motherboard. I don't think there would be much room for different coolers anyways.

I would totally recommend one! I picked mine up off of ebay for $120, Then I got 32gb of ecc ddr2 for like $30 and the cpu's were about $25 each and also a 750ti so total cost was just over $300. Very capable system for the price.

Yea there is a computer shop down in Denver I go to for used parts and they have a whole wall of them for sale, was a little over a year ago last time I went but if they are still there I might get one. Not to mention they are built like tanks :P
