So my friend has this computer " Dell Inspiron 3847 " Desktop and I want to help he upgrade a couple components and add a cheap graphics card what are some other suggestions I should do to upgrade this computer to improve it?

Adding more ram does not help with system performance (unless he is running out of memory) A good graphics card under $100 ....

Maybe you should look at this video

Maybe up the price to $150

The 750/750ti is getting below the 100$ mark and it's a decent card

280x would be the best bang for the buck. But I am not sure if it will fit inside the case.

I mean if he is running multiple programs at once, then, how is his cpu up to the task? You might want a better cpu to handle the multitasking. Even with more ram, the pc is going to have trouble processing all those tasks at once.

So that new ram is not worth it?

Get a 750Ti

oh and follow your topic

If the ram is not worth it what is the best thing to upgrade to improve performance for under $100?

ah, 99% of the time this fixes it.

AN SSD

Its something where once you have it, you CANT go back. Makes all the programs much more responsive, it for the most part eliminates the blue loading mouse icon. The best way to improve performance. A 250 gb samsung 850 evo costs less than $100. You can use the current 1 tb as extra storage. For large programs or files or movies. Videos and such.

Just make sure it's SDRAM I'm not sure if that'll make a difference but I would always check the specifications of the computer to see what's compatible or not.  But yeah if your buddy has a lot of tabs open and or programs an SSD and RAM will help.  As for gaming upgrading the graphics card is the way to go.  Also with that computer it has a maximum of 16gb of Memory.

Here are the specs for this computer: http://www.dell.com/us/dfh/p/inspiron-3847-desktop/pd?~ck=anav
