Hi guys,I'm from the UK and this is my first post on here and I am going to be building my first midrange gaming PC and would like your input please.

Here is a link to my parts list. i should add that the psu is not the corsair as selected it is a Aerocool integrator 500w 80+. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/jjzRD3

I already have a monitor an optical drive and 2x 1TB HDD's.

This is a build for my dad, he only really plays train simulator 2016, uses Microsoft office pro 2010 and streams live football audio from the net as well as browsing.

Would all these components be up to the job? I plan on using windows 7 pro 64bit and running it from the m.2 ssd as well as MS office, TS2016 and any other games from steam. All files will be saved on the HDD's set at RAID 1.

I doubt there will be many more games he'll play but there are lots of add-on scenarios to TS2016. We are on a budged of around £650-£700 (approx $950-$1035) and would like to run the game near maximum with a little bit of overclocking.

Any help and advice will be great fully appreciated.

Many thanks,

Mike.

Thanks guys. Surly the m.2 will be faster for using windows and games? Those power supply's are out of my price range. I dont need anything fancy just something to get the job done.

Actually.... No, the m.2 will not be faster, because literally what crucial did was take the 2.5 inch ssd version of the mx200 and fit it on a m.2 compatible ssd. It will perform exactly the same as a sata mx200. Basically like using a different plug for the ssd. If you want an m.2 ssd that really will get you good performance right now you will be looking at the Samsung 950 pro ssds... Which starts at 130 British pounds. This is the same price as your current ssd, but it is only 256 gb, not 500. The 512 gb version costs nearly 260 pounds. However, if you are not getting this PC right now, plextor might be announcing their new m8e ssd at CES in just a week or so, for which performance will most likely be on par with or better than the 950 pro. Of course, no one know what the price is gonna be though.

You accidentally posted the parts/partlist link bro, I got quite confused when I opened it and it looked just like a part list I was working on earlier. Get that permalink in xD

Welcome to the forum! Firstly, a note:

Some of the users here, like me, use a dark theme. This means that if youndo not use plain text (what is created when typing in normally), the defined text background color will override the default, which is set by the theme. Your text shows as black on a dark grey for us folks. To avoid this, try and use this when pasting:

Hg48JaZ.png

Doing so allows the site to choose whether the font is white or black dependent on theme of which the user has chosen.

Thanks!

Now for my suggestions.

Your CPU cooler choice is one that I have - it's alright. but not the best. I suggest a Kraken X31/41 or a relevant Corsair cooler variant, or even just a simple Hyper 212 Evo.

Your GPU choice is rather outdated, maybe go for the GTX 950.

Here I made this build for you. I got a 250 gb ssd since it only costs a little more than the m.2 ones and has the same performance(already explained why the m.2 ssds don't do better). As well, changed the cooler to the 212 evo since you don't need anything better. As well, got faster ram since, well it's better, and the low end video cards only have 2 gb ram, and in the future if your dad gets into other games having fast ram will help out a lot. As well, I noticed you had some money left so I added a GTX 950 instead of a 750 ti. I have one more question though. Why the 6600k? If you downgrade to an i3 (or even an i5-6500) you can have enough money to get an r9 380, which will make a much bigger difference in games and other stuff. As well, the new skylake overclocking for locked chips can also be an option, so getting a 6500 could save you some money but barely compromise performance. Here's the build I made.

Thanks for all your answers guys very much appreciated.

This is the list I have made now. I have left the discreet GPU out to try the internal GPU. If it holds up no problem then great a few £££ saved, if not then I know to get one. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/sDZswP

Thanks again,

Mike.
