So recently I got a Cooler Master 212 EVO to replace the Amd Stock Cooler. Today I replace the cooler. I opened up my case (Phantom) and started by taking out the Stock Cooler. I pull the lever and go on to loosening the clips on the side (metal thingy). Problem is, I can't get them to unlatch.

I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to break the CPU by pushing down too much, and no matter how hard I try to get the clips to pull down and unlatch, I can't. Please help!

UPDATE: Thanks for the help, I finally got it out when I used both hands to push and pull out.

I've never heard of something like this to be completely honest.

Does the mechanism look like it could be somewhat out of place?

Sig under construction.

I think he means that blue lever in the photo, you just have top do your best to get it out, I had one, just wiggle it around a bit.

it can be a pain

push the metal retainer to one end once you've undone the fastener, then push down on the tab, use medium force, do not push hard.

once one side is off, the other comes off easily. The heatsink WILL be stuck tight to the CPU heatspreader, GENTLY wiggle (like seriously, really fucking gentile as it's a pin-array. and pull upwards. it will come off.

Which side do I start on? The side with the fastener or without the fastener?

You can also unscrew the 4 big screws that hold the socket for the cooler.
