Upgrading My Ram

Go to solution Solved by -rascal-,

Your best...

  1. most fail-safe and,
  2. cost effective

...is to purchase another matching single 8GB stick of G.Skill memory. This way you will know it will work with your existing 8GB memory module without any conflicting issues.

It is also better to go with a 2 X 8GB configuration rather than 4 X 4GB. This puts less strain on the Integrated Memory Controller (IMC), and as a result, can improve CPU and memory stability -- especially when overclocking.

Off topic...RAIDMAX PSU...RIP your PC -- probably.

My current build consists of:

AMD FX 8350 Vishera

ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0

1x G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8gb 240-Pin DDR3

EVGA GeForce 750ti 2gb FTW (But i have a 960 on the way, should come Thursday)

RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-530SS

Samsung 850 evo 500gb

and some shitty hard drive with some strange capacity.

I want to upgrade to 16gb of ram, but i am not sure what is the most cost effective/safest way to do that. I first was thinking of just buying another of the exact stick of ram, and just plugging in and chugging. But then i learned that buying untested sticks would issues. So, i looked at 2x8gb and 4x4gb kits, which i thought would be the safest option. then i had the idea of perhaps buying a 2x4gb kit to put in my other 2 slots. Would this even work? Or is another option more cost effective/safer?

Thanks!
