GeForce + FirePro at the same time?

So I'm building a workstation for Autodesk products and would prefer not to spend $5K for a Quadro M6000... Would it be possible to run a program or programs at the same time using something like a W8100 for anything with OpenGL and/or software certifications/requirements and have 2 Titan X's in SLI for rendering a video editing? At the same time?

 

Is the W8100 better than the M4000?

You could spend much less and get a desktop AMD card if you want OpenGL performance. The W9100 (I think a $2000 GPU) is basically a 280X, so a $200 R9 290 should perform better.

Yeah they could all be in the system at once doing stuff, but I'm not sure if certain programs would allow both to be utilized at once.

I think AMD GPUs are better at OpenGL but Nvidia supports CUDA? I'm not a rendering guy or anything.

AMD is superior in OpenGL afaik, and as you said, nVidia is CUDA (therefore the name CUDA cores)

Then if you want both, I suggest running a GeForce desktop GPU and a Radeon desktop GPU.

You can have both AMD and Nvidia GPUs in the same PC but you will probably run into a couple problems while trying to monitor them with something like MSI Afterburner. All your programs should detect both cards and use whatever they are assigned to correctly though.

 

I can't say anything about professional level cards as I haven't got any experience with them but Radeon and Geforce will work the way I described.

I'm just saying that you can save quite bit by going with consumer cards instead of workstation ones.

All do, just not anywhere near as good as AMD cards. It doesn't make sense to buy a firepro for opengl performance though, since #1 Radeon GPUs will perform just as good in opengl as firepros and #2 never run AMD and NVidia in one system. It will most likely not work because of driver interferance.
