If she's doing photography / videography the Nikon D3300 / D5300 or Canon T3i / T5i are the best options out there.

It's a good camera, for photos.

If your girlfriend knows about cameras more than you do, and only she knows what kind of photography she is into and the direction she wants to go, there's hardly any point for us to recommend cameras to you.

If she wants portability, than yes. And your choice also allows for different lenses to used if she wants to buy any.

Oh.  OK so she just wants to take photos right?  She doesn't care about video?

In that case here are some examples of cameras she can buy that will take good photos, for her use.  They are easy for beginners, and will not be complicated to use.  I don't recommend going into an interchangeable lens system unless you have an idea of what you're doing and be willing to spend some time studying and learning, which can quite often take at least a few months.

For most people like your girlfriend who just wants to take family photos, holiday/casual stuff, interchangeable lens systems can sometimes be overkill and require additional investments over time. But if she is keen on getting such a system I can provide recommendations later.  Just discuss it with her first or have her come and post here.

These cameras listed below are just some examples, and they are easy enough that she can pick any of them up and start taking photos.

Canon S120
