So i noticed this little artifact while taking pictures of a flashlight pointing into the camera. What exactly is this and what causes it?

have you tried cleaning your lens with a tiny bit of isopropyl alcohol and a micro fiber cloth?

That is lens flare and will happen with virtually any camera with enough light. Its cause from reflections in between lens elements.
