CPU fan isnt changing speed

Go to solution Solved by ★ Coups ★,

Its all sorted now. My ears have adjusted to the extremely low noise levels and I can hear the changes ever so slightly. I came from AMD.

Thanks

When I'm in a game I see that the CPU temperature is getting high, but the CPU fan isnt increasing speed or even decreasing speed. Im afraid that something will die. I have the MSI Z97M Gaming Motherboard and a i7-4790k.

I dont understand this. The fan speed thing is in CPUFAN1 header but it isnt doing anything.

I dont want to damage any components and it is getting up to 70c. I turned the game off to protect it as I didnt hear any fans changing. I cannot do it manually because I dont know what my system fans are on speedfan.

Please help, and dont just leave me without an answer, follow the post!

Thanks!

70c isn't even a dangerous temp at all.

But yeah, you could adjust your fan curve.

Instead of using SpeedFan, go into the BIOS and configure the fan curve manually.

BIOS is a scary place. I added pictures too, can u see if its in the correct CPU fan controller? Theres two on my board.

The temperature got up to 80c sorry

Thats right. BIOS isn't that scary. MSI makes very easy to use BIOS'. The fan curve/speed should be on the main page.

i7 4790k | GTX 970 | 16GB

That's all you need to know. It's a beast.

Howcome the fan has no change at all? Surely it would begin to change after it gets to 80c?!

Try to go inside the bios. It's not a scary place, you won't accidently blow up your pc.

You're fine up to 80-90c at load.

Were you using SpeedFan?

Were the motherboard settings reverted to default?

You can go into the motherboard's settings and reset them to default just to make sure.

Reset all of the motherboard settings--it's in the menu.

Set it to 50% all the way across the curves in the bios and then set it to 100% and tell us if you can hear any difference and if the bios tells you the the fan speed (rpm) has changed.

Some fans you may not hear a difference or the motherboard/fan may not be able to adjust the speed

Edit: does your fan actually spin up to 7000 rpm? Seems a bit high to me

The stock cooler's fan speed is 800-2500rpm.
