I've been renovating a HP prebuilt, and the only thing from that tower that remains is the motherboard, cpu, and cpu cooler. Is it worth it to buy a new cpu(like a 4690k or a 4790k)? And what motherboard would be good?

Thanks

Nah, not at all. Stick to your current setup a little longer.

If anything, upgrade the GPU. Hell, even a monitor / mouse / keyboard / headset upgrade would be better. But right now, you don't seem to benefit from a CPU upgrade.

Early 2019 Build : Ryzen 2600X // Asus Tuff X470 // G.Skill Trident Z RGB 8x2 16GB // MSI RTX 2070 // NZXT H500

Late 2017 Build : Intel i7 8700k // Asus Prime Z370-A // G.Skill Trident Z 8x2 16GB // EVGA GTX 1080 Ti  // NZXT S320 Elite

4790k? yes.

4690k? yes, but nothing much. you get to oc this cpu, thus you gain extra performance.

But when gaming you won't notice any big differences b/w those CPUs.

If you wanna buy a 4690k, you've to buy a new motherboard. Like a Z97.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

I know it's your opinion, but technically speaking he won't see any difference upgrading from a 3570 to a 4690k because it's a 1 generation difference..

I didn't notice a huge difference going from the 3570k @ 4.0 to a 6700k @ 4.5 gaming wise

That's my point, not a huge performance boost going from 3570 to 4690

I know it won't be much if a difference but there is gonna be a difference in all other tasks and the most important point this cpu is Overclockable. And yeah he should rather upgrade his gpu while being careful about bottlenecks.

The 3570 won't bottleneck any GPU out there at the moment, I know because I used to own one my self

I had a 980 Ti in my system, it's my friends but I've used it for 2 weeks, it didn't show any type of bottlenecking at all

Played gta v, Skyrim with shit ton of mods and plenty of other AAA games

At 1080p, it will. Not by like 30% maybe 10-15%, At 1440p, 4k, it won't.
