Best gain switch setting?

Hello all,

 

I recently purchased a motherboard (Gigabyte z170x Gaming 7) with a gain switch that can be set to either 2.5x or high-amplification 6x mode2.5x or high-amplification 6x mode.

I was wondering which of these would work best with my headphones (Senheiser HD 280 Pro) which have a nominal impedance of 64.

With my current motherboard I find that the headphones are always too loud, and I have to keep the system volume at 0 and then limit the volume further in each application, I don't know if that's relevant or helpful but thought I'd mention it.

Thanks for the response! Wasn't quite sure how it worked or what to listen for, but that sounds simple enough.
