So I'm not stupid but I can't get 5.1 content to playback properly on my PC. I'm using a RealTek ALC892 onboard sound set to Quadraphonic (4 channels) and whenever I play something that is 5.1 or just anything multi channel I only get stereo sound. I'm aware that if it's 5.1 it may need all 5.1 channels but i tried setting my onboard sound to 5.1 and just disabled the center and subwoofer and still nothing. I was able to get 4 channel sound working in Foobar with a plugin called free surround but it absolutely refuses to playback audio unless I set it to WASAPI because of some invalid pointer error so i bypassed the Windows mixer and it worked just fine. Games also work fine set to 4 channel but when I try and watch a YouTube video that I know supports 5.1 or even some Netflix content that I know is in 5.1 its just stereo.

I'm not sure if it's a problem with my onboard sound drivers just not having it or if it's something I did but getting more than 2 channels to playback is a real pain. Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Setup

Realtek ALC892 set as Quadraphonic

Logitech X140 speakers connected to rear output

Fluance SX6 connected as fronts
