I currently have a computer with Windows 10 running on it's HDD. A very thoughtful friend got me a Sandisk something 240GB SSD while it was on sale and I want to put Windows on it but still use my HDD as a storage drive.

*mildly autistic*

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K @ 4.2 GHz | Motherboard: x99 RampageRAM: 16GB DDR4 GPU: Nvidia 980 Ti SSD: Looking for one |

I see no issues here. Fine load times await.

Clone the HDD onto the SSD, then format the HDD.

Theory is when you know everything but nothing works. Practice is when everything works but you dont know why. In this computer, theory and practice are combined: Nothing works and i dont know why.

Atleast i can manage Some things, like my current OC personal best.

Cloning is easiest, just use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free to do it...

That said... There are more variables before you make your choice.

How much space do you have used on the MHD?

You also want to keep at least 20% free on the SSD for data migration.

I would do a clean install of the OS and essential software to the SSD, and all other software to the MHD.

Hey there :)

It is recommended to do a fresh install of the OS on the new SSD while you have your other storage drive (the HDD) unplugged from your system along with any other storage devices. This would be the most problem-free way. It would also require you to reinstall all your applications and games. once done you can format the old boot partition once you've backed up whatever you needed and reformat it to be used again. The rest of the data on the HDD should still be available after that :)

Feel free to ask if you happen to have questions!
