Ram Compatibility

Go to solution Solved by SeanAngelo,

So, i've decided to build my first gaming PC, since my laptop wasn't quite cutting it anymore.

I bought everything i needed a couple of days ago and now i'm worrying about compatibility with my ram and the motherboard.

Specs are as follows:

  • Intel i5 4690k
  • Msi Gaming 3 z97
  • Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400mhz 16gb CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R
  • nvidia 960 4gb
  • Sandisk 128gb ssd
  • wd blue 1tb

i checked all of the compatibility before, but now im concerned.

The motherboard states that it only supports the c10 version of the vengeance, will i be able to run this in my computer?

thanks in advance

yeah, it should run at a lower speed. but enable XMP and you can run it higher

More than likely you will be fine. The QVL is just a list of ram sticks they have used and verified it works. The list will always be incomplete because they cannot possibly test EVERY ram stick with EVERY mobo product. From what I have seen over the last few years, especially on the intel side is that as long as it fits (and is the right type ie. ECC or not, etc) is that it should work regardless of it being on the list or not.

When in doubt, re-format.

it will work but it is considered an overclock

enable xmp and ram will run at rated speed and timings as well as voltage

it may not be stable tho so maybe do a stress test because as i said it is considered an overclock

if i dont enable xmp will it run just at normal 1600mhz or will it not function?
