Hey all!

So I'm thinking of getting an Nvidia card for my system with the reference cooler since that is the only design that will fir in my case. The only problem is that all Nvidia cards (even the Titan X) come with the ugly green lettering on the side that clashes hard with my build color scheme which is red and black. I was wondering if it would look decent if I were to take the letter panel out and spray paint it red. I wouldn't be scraping any of the green off or anything, just painting over it. I would probably also paint the body of the cooler too to make it match.

So what do you all think? Would it work out well? The think I'm most concerned about is the lettering since I think that would be most likely to look bad. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

I have a reference card.

you should scratch the green paint off the letters first, to make them grey which will then shine white.

I'd be careful painting it though.

I don't think that will work though. I was reading through some stuff and apparently the more recent Nvidia cards use a green rubber for the letters instead of green paint on top of white. Sanding it would just rub off more rubber and make it look bad.

Which card do you have?

EDIT: Never mind, just saw you have a 980. So did you do the paint sanding with your card?

If you haven't purchased anything yet, whats wrong with an AMD card? It would fit your color scheme, and its a bit cheaper. Maybe an R9 390 or something, I can't really recommend AMD cards since I know nothing about them TBH.

Price to performance they win in most comparisons with standard American pricing, except the Fury X.

I'm thinking about that as well. The problem is that it can be hard to find an AMD card that has a blower style cooler. I know that XFX has a blower style card, but those can be hard to come by sometimes. I'll look around.

You can still do that mod with the new rubber coating, it just takes more time to wear and cut through it into the hard plastic base material beneath:

I havent modded mine yet, but I'm not 100% sure about this. I'll check on my card to see what it's like when I next pull my card apart.
