After an involuntary hiatus from pc gaming for almost 4 years, I've decided to (finally) build myself a new computer rig. I've planed out the build, but i can't decide whether it is worth the extra $$$ to go for the higher-tier option compared to the more budget friendly one (se attachment)

1. Budget & Location

I live among polar bears and Santa Claus (not really) in the northermost part of Europe, also known as Norway. My budget is in norwegian kroner (nok), but for simplicity it's possible multiply USD with 10 to get the Norwegian equivalent value included VAT (8.7 excluded VAT).

My budget is 25.000 nok, but i'm all for spending less than the whole budget.

2. Aim

My aim is to be able to play AAA titels with at least 60 fps @ 1080p. I know that this can be achived with almost every mid-tier card these days, but I'm planning to upgrade to a 1440p monitor further down the road. It'll also be used for productivity (Word and Excel), and medium to hevy multitasking.

3. Monitors

As I mentioned above, i'm using a faily old 1080p monitor (Dell alienware AW2310). It still serves me well as a secondary laptop monitor, but i've wanted a larger screen due to the somewhat small size.

I'm thinking of buying either the Eizo EV2750 or Asus PG279Q (not included in the budget) sometime in the near future.

4. Peripherals

I'm currently using a membrane keyboard and a Logitech G602 mouse, but i'm planing to buy the Logitech G902 (any experiences(?)) to replace the keyboard.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I'm upgrading because of the graphics card to the old pc caught fire 4 years ago, resulting in a permanent damage to the motherboard(?). The computer has been extremely unstable ever since and can sometimes crash before booting into windows, while other times run games perfectly fine. Even after replacing the graphics card with a new one (gtx 560ti).

6. Notes

On the higher tier build i'm planning to upgrade the EKWB Predator 360 in the long run, but if I choose the hier tier it'll be built with an air cooler

Here's a build I made. It doesn't include CPU cooler so you can choose it, I calculated 25000 kroner to use and it gives about 2850 so that was the budget. There's enough money left for a predator 360 aio. It has 980 ti sli so should perform a lot better than even your higher build, should give you 1440p at very high refresh rates. However, if you aren't in a big hurry for this I would recommend waiting another half year or so for nvidia pascal and amd artic islands, it will be the first major gpu update in at least 3 or 4 years and will bring with it hbm2 for ultra high memory bandwidth as well as a new manufacturing process (14&16 nm vast he current 28nm) so buying now with that just about to come might not be a great idea.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

-snip-

The build you listed looks sweet!

However, there's one problem. Even with the converted currency from usd to nok, there's still a large import fee for norwegian vendors. For example; the EVGA GTX 980 Ti HYBRID costs 719 usd on PCpartpicker, in comparison it costs 956 usd in the norwegian store. So if I were to biuld the same computer as you listed, it would probably cost me 1000-1500 usd more, which kind of breaks the budget by a long shot

But thanks anyway!  :)

Oh... Then maybe your higher tier build is gonna be a little more suited for you. Only thing I would change to your higher tier build is get 3000 MHz ram or higher, it does actually make a difference sometimes.
