Hi guys,

I'm trying to host a local minecraft server and I'me having several difficulties and problems.

1. Quite a bit of internet lag.

2. It requires all users to be plugged into ethernet

Are there any better ways of hosting a minecraft server other than using Mojang's "Minecraft Server 1.8.9.exe"?

And how do i allocate more ram to the server?

And how do i fix the aforementioned internet issues?

And also bonus question. If i plan on allowing certain people outside of my network then what should i do? (precautions)

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

You can't really fix internet issues, you need decent internet to run a server, and to allocate more ram when you fist started off issuing that one command.

Go to 5:06

Change the 1024 to 2048 or 4096

Please PM me if you need help with this or need a premade server zip.

That's a long conversation that I don't fancy typing it all out.

DDOS protection is unneeded especially if you are playing over LAN (not to mention expensive and stupid if you only playing with friends).

Custom URL will also cost money and will be uneeded over LAN.

wait, I just noticed this. Are you playing over LAN while hosting the server using "Minecraft Server 1.8.9.exe"?

If so you are doing it wrong, if you are playing over LAN you can just turn it on in the in game settings. You do not require a actually sever.

So are you trying to host a server for people to connect over the internet or just locally on your network?

Both

For whatever reason it doesn't work any other way.

What is your internet connection speed? And what do you mean it requires others to be connected to ethernet?

It won't allow them to connect otherwise. It will say something along the lines of Java exception, bla blah blah, could not find server.

As for internet speed, speedtest.net says 900Mb/s Up and 900Mb/s down. I shit you not.

Wow. So it seems like your internet connection is definitely not the problem. How many players are connecting and what are the specs of the machine running the server?

So far 1 laptop, i5-5200U (Broadwell 15w dual core), 8GB RAM, Geforce 920M,

and 1 Desktop (that being mine), i5-4570 (Haswell 84w Quad core), 16GB ram, Geforce GTX 770

Here is a video on how to allocate more memory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_dOxp4dMsI

If you want to have people outside of your local network connect, you need to port forward inside your router. There are plenty of guides online, just search for port forwarding with your specific router.

Here is where you can use a domain name like aluminiumtech.com or something. They're a couple bucks a year, I have a few for random stuff myself and like to use Namecheap to buy them from. Just google "what is my ip" and type that into the A record for the domain.

k. Now I need to find a way to convince my dad to port forward and convince my mom to buy a domain name :(

How do i make an offer which is under $199 since both names i want are already taken.

I would really just get something else, even aluminium.tech, which is $5 for a year.

nvm I read it wrong. I can use it. How come those domain names are so cheap?
