I am going to get philips fidelio x2 in january, and I was thinking of picking up a dac at the same time. I heard that Fiio E10 was good for the price, but you can not buy that one anymore where I live. so it will have to be the E10K.

so my question is: IsFioo E10K a good  choice or is it something else that is better for same price or less?

I have the headphones and I would highly advise checking how they sound with your current computer (assuming that's what you are planning to use it for). I'm currently using it directly to the motherboard and I will be getting a Fiio E10K to go with it just mainly because I have a feeling that my sound card on my motherboard isn't that great and sometimes some things are too quiet. Already tried them with my friends E10K and I could tell the difference for better but your experience my vary. This will also eliminate a minor coil whine noise I can hear when everything is silent but my PC is under load.

Definitely don't get the E10K unless you have checked the headphones and are convinced you will hear a noticeable improvement. The headphones are 32 Ohm so any motherboard/mobile device will be able to drive them; it just depends on the quality of the sound card/DAC your PC/mobile device has.

With all my research into DAC's I've heard that the E10k isn't as good as the original E10.

I'm no expert I'm just going of someone who seems to review mid to entry level DAC's and AMP, he has tried both.

SSL will shot me for mentioning ZReviews again...  :P

my brother do have AKG 612 pro and Fiio E10K, but he isnt always home.

after what people say, I may just try those, with and without the fiio :)

if I am going to buy it, the best thing would be to buy it at the same time as the Philips fidelio x2, because of less shipping.

but I will use the front port on my case, because I will not use the back one for other than my speakers, because its not that easy to plug stuff in on the back of my computer when I have it the way I have it.
