So for some time now while I'm playing BF3 my pc blue screens, when I reboot I get the Overclock Failed! error. Hasn't happened on any other games to my knowledge besides BFBC2. I set everything back to default in bios and overclocked it again. Ran Cinebench the first time and it blue screened. The second time it finished and I started to run Prime 95. Maybe 5 minutes in it blue screened again and I set everything back to default for the moment. And for those of you that are just going to link me to the NCIX Tech Tips video of Linus overclocking it I've watched it before  :) Here's what I have dialed in...Thoughts, Ideas, and suggestions are appreciated

Your 1055 probably has a flaw in one of it's cores that is giving you the error...

In silicon roulette it's bound to happen...

I can't get my 4th core on my 1090T over 4GHz because it crashes my computer...

Both prime95 and BFBC2 are much more CPU demanding than Cinebench which is probably why you were able to complete that and not the prior two.

Either find and turn off that core or settle with a less demanding overclock.

FWIW, if you are a gamer you shouldn't notice the difference between 5 and 6 cores and may even see a performance gain with 5 cores running at a faster clock rate.

You see this most notably with Turbo core tech enabled as it disables 3 cores and speeds up the other 3 for processes that don't use the extra cores.

If you want faster speeds just keep playing until you find something stable. If you have decent cooling you should be able to get a rather generous OC on the 1055.

Thanks for the reply. I've never looked for a flaw in a core, how do I find out which core it is if it is a individual core? You can disable certain cores correct? My cooling is pretty generic and meh, got to about 65c on prime 95.

I don't know if there is a better way although I am sure there is but,

You can disable cores in the BIOS, I just went one by one until I found my problem. (Started with 3 cores enabled until one failed, then went individually until I found the weak link)

It's a process of elimination that can be tedious.

Let's see if others come up with ideas.

FWIW, now days I run all cores at around 3.8 GHz as I find it more than enough.

The reason BF3 is giving you overclock headaches is because it saturates all of your cores. I don't recall how many cores BFBC2 uses but it's only been recent that games are using more and more of them. I bet Crysis 3 would make your CPU bomb too.

Prime 95 lists each core and a worker for each so finding out which one failed is easy. However, given that you're BSODDING it's going to be a little trickier to decipher what core is failing. I'm sure from memory that 4GHZ was not a given for every 1055t so try lowering to around 3.8ghz.

Also, what timings and speed is your memory ending up with? Prime will bomb if the memory is unstable as it does a blend test using both it and your CPU. You may need to over volt your memory slightly as if it's 1.5v then the board will struggle with it (AMD boards in general don't like LV ram).

Have you made sure to disable Spread Spectrum and so on? what cooler are you using? what are you monitoring temps with? how hot is the CPU getting?

That's a lot to answer, here we go. Mem is at 1525 i believe at 1.505v, yes I disabled Spread Spectrum for CPU and PCIE, my cooler is the Corsair A50 I'm pretty sure, using hardware monitor for temps, CPU was getting to 65c when running Prime 95 @ 4ghz with all 6 cores.

Question. Should I be disabling all the cores in bios and testing each one with Core #0 at stock speeds or overclock?? Will a bad core crash my pc at stock speeds??

AMD should have tested all cores prior to shipping it out so most likely no it will not crash at stock speed.

You can either be happy with the stable overclock you have now or start trying to figure out which core is bad...

65C is fine for the processor, just don't let it get much over 80, they aren't the best at high temps.

I am sure one of the hardcore OC'ers can give you better answers...

If you can't find anything here head over to Overclock.net

65c is not fine for an AMD processor. Their TJMAX before they start throttling is 68c. My old Phenom 2 x4 would bomb if it hit 53c. Always the same, BSOD at 53c.

OP - up your memory voltage to 1.6. See if that helps. When overclocking my 8320 nothing I did would make the computer stable until I did that. I run Mushkin 1.5v ram and even at stock speeds it's unstable unless I give it 1.65.
