So yeah the title basically sums it up but here's the details,

 

I was trying to delete a partition on my most important 2 TB HDD (has all my backups etc.) and I ended up clearing the entire thing, there goes 1.6 TB worth of data.

 

Will be running Remo Recover over the weekend to hopefully recover my data, if anyone knows of any better partition recovery programs please let me know.

If it's just backups then it's no big deal. Back everything up again (and then you get the newest backup) :)

If it's just backups then it's no big deal. Back everything up again (and then you get the newest backup) :)

a lot of those stuff I don't have any where else anymore, it's more like all my installation files, all my music, pics, steam and all my games were on there as well and my internet is capped (it has a limited ammount of data usage a month)

 

I'll just hope for the best and see if I can recover everything, some of my homebrew stuff were also on there and those things can't be replaced.

With any luck you only deleted the addressing sectors and not the actual data, although it will take time you can rebuild this and hopefully recover everything...

 

Shit happens, keep multiple back ups  ^_^

An interesting fact about how hard drives store data and what happens when it's deleted, when you delete something, it actually doesn't leave the disc in the HDD, it just tells the OS that there is free space there and when you save something in it's place, you just over-write what was previously there. So in short, your data should be easily recoverable, the sooner you run the data recovery however, the larger your chances of getting everything back are :)

haha, yeah I know that. thing is I can't remember the tool I used last time I had to do some recoveries and I'm not too sure about Remo  Recover (got it free from a guy who said he can't get it to work)

 

I'll probably make a guide on data recovery within the next few months since this is something a lot of people have asked me to do back when I was freelancing.

 

Ironically the program I usually use for this kind of thing is on that hard drive hahaha

haha, yeah I know that. thing is I can't remember the tool I used last time I had to do some recoveries and I'm not too sure about Remo  Recover (got it free from a guy who said he can't get it to work)

Well I'd suggest looking around for different tools, check reviews and such as you want the first run to be a good run, as to avoid losing some files for good. I haven't personally heard of Remo Recover, then again I haven't done a lot of data recovery :P

well i did this multiple times in the past trying to install os's and stuff

and as the co-forummer said shit happens :P

How is it going till now?

The program retrieved everything, but I still can't access them outside of the program as I need to basically copy the entire partition to a new hard drive, I will be using my external for my reload once I get home.

Multiple backups are easier said than done when you have as much stuff as I do.

I managed to restore all my data onto my external hard drive, I'm busy putting it back into the hard drive I messed up lol  :lol:
