Windows Updates not working

I've had windows update trying to find updates for like 15-20 minutes now and nothing has happened, I've done a few updates up to Service Pack 1 (win7) after I installed windows on my SSD but now it refuses to show up with updates, I tried downloading the windows 10 free upgrade thing from microosft and it also got stuck at searching for updates.

 

Anyone know what is up?

Get the MS Windows 10 upgrade advisor and run that if you want 10. That'll handle the upgrade for you automatically.

Stop Windows Update service.

 

Go to My Computer --> C drive --> Windows --> Rename Software Distribution Folder to Software Distribution.Old and Restart the PC then check for update.

 

If it refuses to rename, reboot into safe mode. Then rename and restart then check for Windows Update.

 

It should Work!

I get that The Windows Update Service could not be stopped

What about on Safe Mode?

restarted the PC, tried the command, it was already not started up, renamed thge folder, restarted the PC, started windows update and ofc it is still stuck on 'Checking for Updates' bit like before, only this time it says that the msot recent installation and check for updates was never, should I try running windows update while on safe mode?
