Cant play mkv file

So i was trying to play a .mkv file on my new pc but i couldnt get it to work even though i have the right software. This is what i get when i try to load the .mkv file. I tried with Media Player classic and Windows Media player, both gave me black screen and doesnt load as well. Any idea how to solve this?

Get VLC media player. The best of the best. Plays pretty much every format that was ever conceived.

You're likely a codec or two short. Not at all uncommon with fresh installations. VLC is best at playing broken/unfinished/corrupted files overall. BSPlayer does great at recognizing the codecs and auto-downloading them. You can also find packs of codecs online to get your microsoft players to work with the files but the unofficial multi-packs are a great source for viruses too.

Is VLC the only way to fix this? My old laptop was able to play it without vlc somehow for some unknown reason. Is there any other things tat i am able to do to get it fixed?

I downloaded vlc player and it gave me green screen this time round lol. Seems like something wrong wit the pc

Alrite i download the BSPlayer that u linked me and it downloaded the missing codec. And now it works! Thanks so much for ur help.

No offense who saying VLC is best.

 

It's best at playing each and every format for media files.

 

But the quality is just poor! Poor than all player out there.

 

Installing K-Lite Codec Pack could solve your problem, It includes Media Player Classic. The best player in my opinion. It's playback quality is really close to a Windows Media Player.
