I've probably made a topic similar to this before but I don't think I got a true answer. Comparing the best i5 4590 and single R9 290 build to my overclocked FX 6300 you can see that the FX 6300 gets better performance in Physics *CPU related test* of course the i5 build gets better in graphics *because of the overclock* but the Combined score is just ultra low. Is this like a real world test where an application only uses four cores at most? Are there any actual descriptions on how the Combined test of this works?

 

 

I'm actually getting the i5 4590 that's why I used this CPU as a comparison. Should I continue to use the AMD build to render and Stream or should I entirely switch to the i5

This is comparing rendering between the i5 4460 and the 8350 using all cores correct? So rendering with my 4590 should be similar to my overclocked FX 6300

In that test with the i5 4590 and the R9 290 is the graphics card flashed to be an R9 390 or flashed to be an R9 290 and is an R9 390?

If you look in the details in the Graphics card you see Driver Name: AMD Radeon R9 390 Series

Where of course my R9 290 shows : AMD Radeon R9 200 Series

The Combined Test stresses both the CPU and GPU at the same time. It's a load you might see in something like Battlefield 3 or Crysis 3.

That is correct.

The Geekbench multi-core score is better for the i5 4590 than the 6300 http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4590-vs-AMD-FX-6300

Not to mention the blazing single core performance that will benefit in gaming.

This post at rog.asus.com/forum/ says it's one thread per core without a mention of upper limit for number of cores. The post #2 has links to pictures of calculation formulas but they're behind a loginwall. 

 

I gotta say, the PSU must play a part too when both CPU and GPU are stressed. Don't stare too blindly at just the two results.

I honestly doubt it's my power supply, I have a 1300W

High peak wattage doesn't make a PSU stable. As a matter of fact, the best PSU performance is usually achieved at roughly 80% of it maximum output and the less it's stressed the worse it gets. Not saying this is definitely the case but an overpowered PSU can actually cause issues with stability. Anyways, my point was that there's more to it than just the two components. You should update your bio. It says you got an EVGA 600B.
