Mousepad losing it's slickness

I have a Perixx DX-5000 hard mouse pad and have owned it for about 2 months primarily using the SPEED side, Overtime, however the once extreme slickness of the mousepad, has felt like it has degraded and feels a lot less smooth than it once was, any ideas on what the problem is?

The "slick" coating on the pad it probably wearing off....

Edit: Or there is gunk building up on the pad and you need to clean it off somehow.

i tried cleaning it with some water and a microfiber cloth to no avail, I also did notice some white spots on the pad and perhaps that's what you mean be the coating is wearing out

It depends on the mouse pad but hard mouse pads will wear out overtime, the best thing is to have the feet on the mouse be a softer material than the mouse pad itself so the feet et worn out first but it sounds like the surface itself has taken a beating.

Hard mousepads, being made of plastic, will wear out over time. There's not much you can do about that, it's how friction works.

I had a Func 1030 L for 2 years. It's also a 2 sided hardpad. The smooth side on it had serious wear after about 4 months of usage, making the glide inconsistent and noticeably different. I switched to the hard side, which I used for the remainder of the 2 year period, until it also started showing signs of wearing out.

With a clothpad, you're not dealing with a solid surface, but a texture weave. This makes it far, far more resistant to wear, as the surface isn't rigid but has a bit of give to it. Clothpads will eventually wear out, but the process will be much slower and a lot of times a simple wash is all you need for the fabric to be useable again.

Personally, I went with a Razer Goliathus Speed.

I own and use, sorted from newest to oldest: SteelSeries 6Gv2. Microsoft SideWinder X4. Mionix Naos 7000. Zowie EC1 Evo. Microsoft SideWinder X8. Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. Dell U2414H. Samsung P2270H. AKG K273 Pro. Sennheiser HD555. Razer Goliathus Speed Medium. Func 1030 L. Qpad CT Medium.

I used to own: Razer DeathAdder 3G. Razer Krait. IntelliMouse Optical 1.1. SteelSeries QcK.
