Hello,

I'm thinking about installing a ASUS PCE AC66 in my server to use it as a wifi access point, because my current wifi AP is very bad. Small range, low speed, bad reliablilty etc.

Is it possible to use the ASUS PCE AC66 in my server, (mb: ASUS P8H77-I) running CentOS 6.4?

Thanks, Gino

According to this website, the PCE-AC66 is not supported in GNU/Linux based OSes like CentOS. Like @rufee said, just get a normal access point. For example the D-Link DIR-860L, or the WD My Net AC1300 both costs about 110, which is about the same as the PCE AC66.

oh, too bad. I prefer a build-in wifi AP. Aren't there any other cards which works fine with centOS as an access point?

Something like: http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?model=TL-WDN4800 ??

I can barely find any info about that card at all, and there are no drivers on the website except Windows drivers.

WLAN support on Linux is usually very poor, so what I recommend is you find a card that looks good then Google if there are Linux compatible drivers for it. If you can't find any, try a different card. Either that or get a separate wireless access point like one of the two I linked above.

Btw, will the ASUS PCE AC66 work on a windows server?

I could replace my OS by windows server 2008...

The normal Windows 7 drivers should work just fine in Windows Server 2008 but there is no guarantee that it will work.

What do you use the server for?

okay, thanks ^^

It wont be any problem by setting the card to AP-mode?

I've never done that (in Windows) so I don't know at all.I think that it is possible with programs like Connectify, but I have no idea how well it works.
