This says otherwise, but that's if the U3 is running at its rated speed and would be compatible with litecoin (i honestly don't know how this stuff works all too well)

If i got an Antminer U3 which is rated for 60ish GH/s, could i use it for litecoin instead of bitcoin and will it be as efficient? 

Well 60 GH/s you would make about...let me think... NOTHING! Minimum for today is around 4 TH/s.

That there's an asic designed for bitcoin, not litecoin. Two completely different cypto's

You will see only losses from it running that today. it will perform shit in litecoin, and is about 1/20th the power you need for bitcoin today.

If you're wondering why an ASIC designed for bitcoin won't work well with Litecoin then let me crudely explain it.

An ASIC, or Application Specific Integrated Circuit, is developed with a singular purpose in mind. In this case, that particular ASIC was designed just for Bitcoin, you will only see those kinds of crunching stats from it, when its working on bitcoin, nothing else.

Many ASIC simply are incapable of working out number chains for anything else but what they're designed for, and if they do there's very little to guarantee that it will work well in any sort of capacity.

Bitcoin and Litecoin while both cryptocurrencies are vastly different in encryption, and how you go about "mining" for them. While in essence the idea is the same, the implementation is greatly different, I wouldn't be surprised if it was incapable of mining for litecoins at all, though, since its a pretty broadly designed ASIC, it might do, but only just.

If i got an Antminer U3 which is rated for 60ish GH/s, could i use it for litecoin instead of bitcoin and will it be as efficient?

Don't buy it at all. I have have one and it's super unstable. First few nights were fine, then its WU dropped and dropped until it became Zombie. By the way, Bitcoin ASICs can only be used for the algorithm sha256, so no it can't mine Litecoin.

Horrible build quality. Not enough Hash power for the power consumption, you wouldn't make a dime.

Also SHA-256 (Bitcoin) ASICs can only mine cryptos with the same hashing algorithm as Bitcoin, if you tried to mine Scrypt (Litecoin) with it you would literally get 0 Hash/s
