Weird Artifacting

Hi,

 

I keep getting this weird artifact on my screen, it's like the top 10 or so pixels are interlaced with the top 10% of the screen instead of where they need to be. This happens usually in the mornings and sometimes late at night. If I use Windows snapshot, the artifact is not there.

 

I have a GTX 980 factory overclocked connected via DVI to VGA to a 13 yr old compaq CRT monitor. Is my graphics card broken or the monitor?

Most likely the monitor, being so old and using VGA.

Do you have an LCD to hook it up to? Maybe the DVI to VGA adapter is dying.

No LCD for the forseeable future. I'm guessing it's the monitors fault, because when I change the vertical image offset or vertical image stretching options in the monitor's OSD, the artifacts don't change. If it's from the graphics card, it should change.

It is most likly the moniter but If you don't have a alternative try a new cable because It could be that. If that doesn't work try underclocking your GPU.

Afaik CRTs with a removable cable are rare. I've never even seen one.
