What case fan?

Go to solution Solved by TheCaptain53,

So should I get the bitfenix or cougar?

Compare reviews of the two models, I've not owned them so cannot comment on what's better.

Hi, I am planning to get new fans to replace the stock ones in my Corsair Spec 02. I am choosing between the Bitfenix Spectre (not pro) no LED version and the Cougar Turbine

CFT12SB4. I do not know which one is better as they are both decently quiet. These are the only fans that I can afford on my budget. Please tell me which one is cooler (pun intended). I will be using them as case fans. Thanks.

I personally use 2 of the Bitfenix Spectre Pro versions. They are pretty quiet however it does seem they don't like PWM control to much as the speed sensor is all over the map (doesn't affect how they run however).

If I was looking for white fans, the Bitfenix ones would be my go to.

Cant comment on the Cougar Turbines, never used them.

I also use Gentle Typhoons and Silverstone AP121-L. I don't recommend the Gentle Typhoons, the 2 I use are to noisy in terms of motor whine, the Ap121-L's are good though.

In the end though, for any future builds I make, ill be using Noctua Fans, as they are still the best I've ever used in terms of how quiet they are and their performance, they just look ugly as sin on anything other than a matching Noctua colour scheme build.

The only reason I can't buy those is my budget. I have a pretty tight budget right now so my total options are 4 fans for under 30 bucks. The bitfenix non pro version is 7 bucks on amazon so 28 dollars total. The cougars are 30 bucks even. So I'm just trying to find out which is the better one.

Do you HAVE to replace your fans? There's no reason you can't mix and match.

I would forego outright fan replacement right now as you may be able to better allocate your budget to improve other areas of your system. Or, you could pick yourself up a fan controller if the noise is bothering you. The NZXT Grid+ V2 recently came out and it has individual fan control, so that would be a great choice to reduce the speed of your fans.

I already have a fan controller.

So what do you want to achieve by replacing your fans?

I would personally be more inclined to buy a couple of really good fans rather than 4 'okay' ones, such as the Noctua NF-P14 fans. They come in grey, so that's good.

I know that I should get really good noctua fans or something like that but they're just way too much money for four fans.

I don't need them to last forever. I just need them to work reliably and quietly for the time being until I get more money.
