Looking for a decent headset

I heard great things about the hyper X cloud and how it was so great for it's cost i'v had it for maybe less than half a year and the right ear doesn't work, it makes VERY loud static sounds for other people (when I'm in group calls) and I'm always having to fix it and I'm "that guy with the annoying loud headset" long story short, it's a nuisance that i'm always having to work around my friend that i'v recommended it to has had similar issues. The only headsets that i'v own are Astro A40s Hyper x cloud and some random cheap brand one when i was like 12 the one i liked the most was the Astros but i hated so many things about them and they're far too over priced to buy them again. I'm looking for a decent headset, i don't want to get a billion comments saying either hyper x cloud or telling me to get a headphone with a mic attachment or to get the sennheiser zero, i do have a budget of maybe around $200 AUD

I'v heard bad things about the headset and IMO it seems over priced.

really? I've heard pretty much nothing but praise, and these are $70 cheaper than usual. You almost certainly can't beat the sound quality at that price (with a decent mic attached anyway).

I'v had two friends that have used it, from my understanding the build quality is shit, the mic is awful (and at that price i wouldn't expect an awful mic) The only good thing is the sound from what i'v heard and even then for $200 (on sale) having a good sound quality isn't that great of a deal

They clearly didn't own a Sennheiser product if the build quality was shit and the mic was awful, if they said that I'd have to call them out on bullshitting a product because they use a pair of Logitech or some other gaming branded garbage. For headSET, the Sennheiser G4ME One is king of the hill IMO (I say One, because Zero is closed and if you play FPS, particularly anything competitive, that's not what you want).

As far as price, you are paying a little for convenience of a headset form factor, but realistically you are looking at an HD598 with a mic slapped on, so when you factor that in and coming from Sennheiser, it's quite a good price.

This was legit the first video i found when i typed in "sennheizer zero review"

He even says the mic is fucky

EDIT i'm not here to fight over if the "sennheiser is bad or good" i just personally don't want based from my understanding yes that might be wrong or seen as ignorant but i don't have the money to be not ignorant and just go buy a pair and try them myself, there isn't any shops where i can walk into and just try them on as well, i wish there was where i lived.

And a video that praises the headset is bad? I skipped through uninformative bits, but he has VERY little bad to say about it with the primary things being the typical closed headphone complaints. The mic you clearly heard in the video.... What is the problem? I watched and didn't hear him say "the mic is fucky", the only thing was the noise cancellation of the tv in the background he had going, but that can happen with any mic. If you want a quality mic, you will want to spend this same amount that you'd spend on the headset, on mic alone.

The G4ME One/Zero are the best headsets you will get, period. The all-around package is too good of a value in comparison to the alternatives. The alternatives are the Audio Technica AG1 & ADG1 as well as the Beyerdynamic MMX300. The MMX300 I absolutely would NOT recommend, especially not for the price, however the Audio Technica IS a good option (basically look at an A700X or AD700X with a mic slapped on). The issue with the AT is that they are generally priced higher and not as "sturdy" to hold up to abuse like the Sennies, but otherwise build quality is as other AT products are known for.

It's all good, not everyone has that luxury, I sure don't. My recommendations are generally based off personal experience through owning certain products for certain periods of time to form a conclusion so as to make a recommendation or not. It's not about Sennie being good or bad, it's just that the G4ME series has the best value in the segment($150+) without going headphone + separate mic.

Realistically, unless I'm mistaken, the only other option if the Clouds don't work for you, would honestly be going with a gaming brand like Logitech, something I simply don't recommend doing. What you SHOULD do, is contact Kingston and see if they can help you out with a replacement for the HyperX Cloud.

Okay let's go over all the pros and cons just based off this video

pros: Headset is thin and easy to move from place to place

- build quality is great and flexible

- comfortable padding / headset

- headset has been "tweaked" frequency response to sound more open

- sounds great for gaming eg BF4, assassinscreed but bad for background music

Cons: he has to move the mic quite far away so it dosn't pick up blow back from his talking

-You can hear his video he has playing on his headset through his mic

- the volume wheel is loose

- headset is heavy (312g) he did say in the video that because of how it hugs your head it isn't an issue, but from my experience after a period of time it does become loose and dosn't "grip" onto your head as much and then you feel the weight more

- he has to run it through a sound card to improve it

- " i wouldn't use this as my main music driver" and he continues on about that for a bit "hollow sound"

EDIT: He is also disappointed in the drivers and noise cancellation and price.

I'v given it very little research but when i'v tried doing things like that they always just say no because i live in Aus and just don't want to deal with the shipping just don't want to replace items because the world hates me RIP

EDIT: the first headset i own was logitech and it the worst headset i'v owned my far i wouldn't recommend that brand to anyone so i fully agree with you on that. and as for my astros they were good for about a year maybe a little less then the volume went werid and drivers keeped on playing up and the entire thing became so lose that it just would fall off my head. I did try contact them but they just flat out denied me because they didn't ship over seas

-Hollow sound = closed can complaint, I told you go open with the Ones

-Heavy? No, it will be fine and comfortable for hours on end, these aren't like shitty gaming branded headsets.

-Amp, 100% do NOT need an amp with these

-He didnt say you have to move the mic, he said the mic is far enough away so it doesn't pick that up

That should clear up most issues. Honestly it seems like you are trying to nitpick everything lol. The headphones might not be his favorite for music, I mean that is 100% preference. I love Sennies, but I prefer my Beyer DT990 as a daily driver for music, etc... Doesnt mean the Sennies are bad.

Dude, he's talking about their original list price, they are almost $100 cheaper than that now.

*EDIT*

The only other things to buy would be the cheap shitty gaming headsets, and those have more than twice the flaws INCLUDING their price than the Sennheiser or HyperX. And I simply can't recommend such trash product.

I am very nitpicky when it comes to these things. from what iv heard open ear the better for gaming but iv honestly never tried them and i live with 3 other people and talk to friends on skype alot and have very nosy people in my house and don't want peoples private conversations being heard by others moving my mic away from my face isn't that big of a deal but i just feel when paying that price is shouldn't be an issue is the first place and i don't want people hearing everything happening in my background (including the music i listen to due to poor noise cancelling) and i honestly can't say  if the headset will get more loose and feel more heavy over time when it dosn't grip to your head, but realistically they will become more lose and will not grip and feel more heavy, but that is going to happen with EVERY headset i could purchase, only reason why i actually bring it up is because it's a heavy headset.
