Hi im in the UK and am with bt, recently my internet has been dropping out ever 30/40 mins, for just a few seconds. Bt claim there is "nothing wrong" however after a quick trace i got this result http://phunkeymonkeh.co.uk/img/2013-08-27_230711.png i know something is wrong any ideas, since my isp are reluctant to help.

BTW just because one hop or several gets a request time out doesn't mean that there is a problem as some routers drop ICMP packets.

What time does it usually happen? I usually have about 30min slowdown at times between 1am to 4am but that's about it.

EDIT: with BT btw :P

All day everyday

That's seriously bad then :/ It has to be a fault on BT side, but as always they have people on the phone lines that are clueless about what you are talking about and just read a planned out script of their screens -.-

Recently at my parents house the internet would regularly drop out. They moved and took the package and equipment from their old house with them. Their ISP is the Post Office *sadface* but the line is maintain by BT. Post Office help told me nothing was wrong, BT engineer said nothing was wrong, I requested a new router as the Post Office were still unable to fix the issue and BOOM the new router solved the issue. However the old router worked just fine in the previous property.

My point is if you have a second router laying around the house then try that out, as their may be no problem with the line or connection itself but could be an issue with the equipment they provide. (router etc)

Ye I hate BT so bad, its just their the only people who actually provide a half decent speed, which is great when it actually works :/ . There customer service is also appalling, "we will ring you back" they never have.

Our internet cut out for 2 weeks last month, a new router was issued, and it doesn't seemed to of helped.

Fair enough. I have no idea what to suggest. Next time you contact BT support keep asking to talk to a supervisor so you can try and get through to someone a bit higher up with a better grasp on the situation and less likely to repeat useless information that you have heard before. Document the downtime you get as well so then you can prove your issue if you want to get out of the contract without cancellation fees.

Ye i did and they eventually put me on hold on an 0800 number for 40mins , ye i was quiet annoyed by that point and put the phone down. They also claim its because i use power-line Ethernet adaptors even thought it does the same on both wired and wireless connection
