clicking noise from case

hi all every hour or so I hear a click sort of like electricity type sound coming from my case, what could it be?, i cannot pinpoint the noise to an exact location.

also every time someone flicks the light switches in the bathroom on in my flat the click happens too

If something outside the case is causing it to click, then it could be an electrical problem.

 

It could also just be some vibration coming from somewhere inside your case. Maybe a loose cable?

Is it a hard drive read/write arm?

It could be caused if your socket is overloaded. I have it with my desk fan once I switch it on it cuts the power from my monitor for a second and then recovers

samdb: nah the hard drives seem to be fine when reading and writing they just make the usual bit of noise

A Cable that's not plugged into anything, something like an unused SATA Cable that could be vibrating and hitting the sides of the case.

Maybe something wrong with your Power supply? It's drawing too much or too little power, so that's why the light switch might be affecting it as well.

im running a coolermaster xtreme2 725w psu, in my bios my voltages are12V = 12.288V, 5V = 5.120V, 3.3V = 3.376V

LIke Damikiller37 said, it could have to do with your socket being overloaded, since the light switch was affecting it. Try taking it to a different room in the house and see if the issue persists.
