So this is a question for people that have made a hackintosh or made hackintoshes. I was wondering, can making a hackintosh be beneficial for learning how Apple's OS works or maybe not just Apple's but OSes in general? Or maybe even beyond OSes but how software communicates with hardware, would this be something worth doing for learning and would the reward be worth it? Thanks

I doubt you'd learn much more than you do when you install windows. You basically pick up a distribution of OSX that works well with your hardware (probably modified) and install it like any other OS. There would probably be a few more steps, and other setup processes though.

Unless you're going to get a plain OSX disk and modify everything you need to get it to work on your computer (assuming it doesn't work out of the box). That way you would probably learn quite a bit, but it would take a lot of research and time depending on your skills.

Have you done a hackintosh before?

I think i set one up on a  VM quite a few years ago; (I used Tiger i think). I can only vaguely remember the process though.

My experience with my hackintosh isn't all that great.

First of all I use and AMD CPU, installing is a nightmare (I have dual-boot, but you have to install OS X first, f*d up, lost 3 years worth of data),

sound is half broken(can't listen music because of the pauses), changed the interner provider and now internet doesn't work.

OS X looks pretty good and feels pretty good., but definetly not worth all the data I have lost.

P.S. English is not my primary language so sorry for the grammar mistakes. :D
