Would it perform better?

So as of now I'm debating wether to go buy an i3-4160 then an i5-4690k or a G2358 then a i5-4690k. So I'm wondering would a Pentium G2358 @4.0 GHZ with a stock cooler outperform the i3 in games such as minecraft, because minecraft prefers stronger single cores. Or would the i3 outperform because of its hyper threading?

Well, considering that a upgrade from a 4160 to a 4690k is not legendary, I'd go with the pentium to safe some money and upgrade to a 4690k as soon as possible
