Modmic plus a decent pair of headphones gets my vote. For the right headphones check out the audio section of the forum. There you'll find some good recommendations.

well for the best without going completely overboard either the Audio-Techinica ATH-AG1/ADG1s or the Sennheiser GAME ONE/ZERO (which btw PCCG's got a pretty sweet deal on atm: https://www.pccasegear.com/products/27836)

I have a logitech G430 and i love it.

My first proper headset and the surround sound is great (and overall sound ofc)

Not very expensive either and also quite comfortable on the ears.

Mic is great aswell.
