Quick Question on Frame Sync

W3dge

I am interested in buying a 1080p 27-28" 60Hz 10ms TN panel.

My manifesto says that I won't upgrade monitor if I don't need to because if I don't know what I'm missing then I don't get caught in the money trap of constantly upgrading GPU's and displays.

I have never used an IPS or >60Hz or G-Sync or Free-Sync display before and I had a question for others that have never used those expensive monitors

Can you really tell that you're missing out on something if you have a TN display but have never used an IPS?

Do you feel like you're missing out on something if you don't have a frame-sync monitor but have never used one?

Is screen tearing that much of a problem if you are getting more than 60fps?

Would I be disappointed buying a 60Hz display if I have never used anything better?

I apologize about the horrendous formatting of my sentences. I need more caffeine.

For using a IPS screen over a TN you get

Much better colours and viewing angles as well as less eye strain

Well, it depends. Tearing is worse in some situations and some TN panels are shitty.

In my case, when I noticed that a spreadsheet that had a column in a single colour looked like it wasn't a single colour and when Linus got a mysterious tan because I slouched in my chair were moments when I started thinking about going IPS.

As for tearing, it can have a really obvious effect if you get a good scene where it occurs constantly on a short notice. For example, I noticed the shadow of a helicopter in a game was clipping consistently, which was really awkward. A less consistent case of tearing can make it feel like your TV is dying or you're getting a "bad signal" on the game.
