Ea always on

So was reading and saw this sucks that that they are not playing ball with people. There was all the stink about xbox one being always online and then they went and back pedaled and that seemed to help people back off but its good to see EA does't care and will just do what it wants

EA has been doing some great things lately...

There is a massive difference between games with online functionality and games with always-on requirements.

 

He is saying that they launch nothing but the former. They didn't even mention the latter. All EA games have online functionality, but they do not require an online connection to function at all times. For example with Mass Effect 3 players can only access its multiplayer mode when connected online. The campaign mode however is available either way.

"Always online" is not neccesarily a bad thing in every instance. Picture this, you want to play a quick game of Rush on Operation Metro in Battlefield 3. You join a pretty full server, choose your loadout only to discover that there are about 10 people with noclip, infinite ammo and rainbow trails behind their heads. These mods would have been achieved clientside by altering or adding to the files required to play the game.

 

If you had always online as a requirement for the game, your client would constantly be checked that the correct files were all in order, including campaign files, maps, DLC's and weapons etc. I think that the online gaming community would be a lot cleaner and better place if hackers were stamped out and we were able to play the game as it is meant to be played.

 

Also, most people who complain about "always online" features have an internet connection supplied to their house 24/7 anyway, they are just moaning for the sake of moaning when it is not neccesarily a bad thing.

 

Finally, people who think EA are bad, would you prefer a smaller publisher owned the studios who produce your favourite games? Would you prefer that DICE were owned by people who didn't push for innovatioan and monitoring of the game? Trust me, the gaming scene would be quite a lot worse off as a whole without EA, as many games such as Mirror's Edge, Dead Space and Battlefield could have been scrapped, under-funded or never made it off the drawing board!
