Hard Drives

Go to solution Solved by Razarza,

Hi. I am finally starting to get some parts together for my first build. I was wondering if I require an internal hard drive at all, if I have a 1TB External drive lying around?

If you no longer wish you use the external HDD as portable storage you can disassemble it and install in inside your PC just like any normal harddrive. They are just usually 3.5 inch HDDs in a plastic shell with a SATA to USB adapter.

I would recommend getting a ssd but the 1tb you have laying around will work fine :)

You dont want all your storage to be external, its very slow,

Id get an SSD for your OS and some programs (250-500gb) and maybe a 1-  2 tb hdd

Yes, you need an internal HDD or SSD for the O/S.

SSD's aren't really cost effective for a first build, they would make a nice upgrade in about 6 months time though.

Well we don't know what his budget is, if he is in the US and his budget is 800+ he can fit an SSD into that. Just saw OP is in the UK, if his budget is ~600 pounds he could fit one in.
