Onboard sound needs to go. I want a PCI-E soundcard rather than onboard. Even a really low end or even just putting all the crappy onboard sound stuff on its own PCB would be nice. I don't want onboard sound to just be disabled in the BIOS I want it gone. Do you think this is a good idea?

Well a good thought, it takes away from system integration a raises the price of a product. The main reason why its still there, is that most no one gives a shit how a computer sounds when they are rocking Apple/Samsung IEM's.

(FiiO > Asus)

What about mITX, which only gives you one expansion slot (usually taken by a graphics card)? What about people that don't care about audio, as long as it works? You have the option of discrete sound while those that don't need or want it have their onboard sound, which seems to be the best of both worlds.

If it comes to it onboard audio can be a thing for i-TX or maybe have a dedicated slot above the CPU or something for audio only.

I see absolutely no point in buying a 200$ sound card, when you are using it with those logitech speakers or subpar headphones ... It is just a waste of money and pretty much as stupid as listening to FLACs on those speakers/headphones ...

Just like listening to flac on sub $5000 headphones in the first place.

ASUS makes a premium board which comes with a soundcard (instead of having integrated sound). However, this is a really, really premium board, which I would generally not advise getting because the performance benefit just isn't there.

Compatible with Windows 95

Not that Asus sound cards are recommended in the first place.
