Back Up drive Question?

 Thanks,

It will be just in the one desktop i built for her a couple years ago. How does using syncback compare to using an external? can both be set up to do automatic back ups?

Syncback works with all drives, including a NAS if you choose to buy or build one. The thing about Syncback though is it will keep trying to back up to an external drive that may not be plugged in if you have it scheduled. External drives are still completely viable.

Syncback can be scheduled to do things automatically - external drives are only storage drives except well, they're external. They will need software to do all the fancy stuff(which the drive may come with).

Hi,

I'm wanting to setup some type of backup drive or external drive for my moms computer for christmas. She is a part time book keeper and it is important she doesnt lose data. What im wanting to know, is it better to install another drive in her computer and install software for it. or buy something like a seagate back up thing and use its software. im hoping it can be something i can set up and forget and its automatic. Dont know a who lot about back ups as i usually just wipe my macbook if anything goes wrong.

Thanks for any advice.

Can you do a RAID?

I would not use RAID for backing up. RAID 1 for example is for mirrors. Whatever happens to the main drive happens to the mirror - including deleting files.

@Austinjh. I would suggest an internal drive in the computer and then use something like Syncback to have it periodically sync certain folders between the drives. If she plans to use it in multiple machines, BitTorrent Sync may be an option too if they're hers. If not, then get an external drive of some sort.
