Portable Amp+DAC

Go to solution Solved by _ASSASSIN_,

I also plan to use it with my computer. I just want to have the option to use it with my phone. If I end up bypassing the DAC and just using a line-in to the amp in the future, thats okay.

Then I'd say the E17K is a good way to go.

I am in need of a portable amp-dac combo.

My requirements:

-Good build quality

-Sounds good

-Has built in battery (So i can use it with my phone. If it's bus powered, it won't work)

-Able to drive 100 ohm headphones at a decent volume

-Relatively small

-Under $150 USD

I've looked at the Fiio Alpen 2 (E17K). It seems pretty nice.

I don't know what to get. What are your thoughts?

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.

Fiio A3 ?

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

just going to say, you have research what DACs are compatible with whatever device you are going to use. It's especially difficult if you have an android device.

I've got an iPhone 5s. I was going to confirm before I buy anything, but thanks for the input  :)

Fiio A3 ?

While the A3 does have a USB in, it is only used for charging making the 1/8" jack the only input. It lacks a DAC.

But I just have to say, personally I wouldn't get a DAC since it might not work when you upgrade your phone, and DACs on most phones (at least mid-range/high-end) should be good enough.

I'd just get a standalone amp but that's just my opinion.
